Somewhere

It's 1915 and a German air raid hits London for the first time, turning Elsie Clarke's home life upside down as her house becomes a temporary refuge for survivors of the bombings. But that's only her summer holidays.

A new semester means new surprises at Miss Coleridge's Academy for Gifted Youths. With Madam Tryll as headmistress, the academy has changed, welcoming new students. Elsie must navigate new challenges, but the hardest is acting as a mentor to the new Gifted students. She tries her best to be a good Guardian, but a few terrible mistakes causes Elsewhere's trust in her to falter.

To make matters worse, Gifted kids from around the world have gone missing, taken somewhere that the Gateways can't reach. Elsie hopes to rescue them but her reliance on others' Gifts often leads to more problems.

When a mysterious figure comes to visit, she offers Elsie a tempting solution - a way to keep Gifts for good instead of borrowing them - but the deal comes with a heavy price, one that means sacrificing others for the greater good. Do the ends truly justify the means?

Somewhere, the sequel to Elsewhere, is a fantasy for middle-grade readers. It will appeal to children who enjoy stories set in the real world but that turn our world into something magical. It teaches them how to stand firm in their convictions and solve any problems that come their way, all in a fantastical adventure story.
