READINESS Method

Life is already difficult, but much of that difficulty is intensified by automatic patterns of thinking, feeling, and reacting that operate beneath awareness. These patterns shape interpretation and response before there is a clear sense of choice, often creating cycles of tension and reactivity when they are not seen.

The READINESS Method brings awareness directly into this process as it is happening. Instead of analysing life from a distance, it trains the ability to notice experience in real time so that automatic reactions become visible rather than unconscious, and experience is no longer governed by unseen repetition.

The teaching unfolds in three parts. First, the book describes the automatic process: how thoughts, emotions, sensations, and impulses arise through conditioning and form self-reinforcing loops when not clearly seen. Second, the READINESS process is introduced as a way of working directly with this loop through recognising, investigating, and understanding what is arising. READINESS stands for Recognising with calm, Enduring, Accepting, Discerning danger, Investigating, knowing as Not-self, seeing as Empty and just a suggestion, Subject to change, and a path to Suffering if followed.

The book carefully describes each skill, teaching how to create calm, develop increasingly subtle awareness, and cultivate a spirit of inquiry to discern true benefit from old habitual ways of seeking happiness. Exercises, journaling prompts, summaries, and reference tables support the development of these skills in everyday life.

Third, the book explores what becomes possible as practice deepens and these patterns lose dominance: greater clarity, reduced reactivity, and a more intentional relationship to attention and action.
