Shimmering Deception

Marieke works as a nurse in a residential care home and dreams of becoming a writer. While searching for inspiration in the stories of her elderly residents, she struggles with her own insecurities, a troubled past, and the fragile boundary between imagination and reality.

When Lucas, a charming and seemingly perfect nurse, enters her life, Marieke becomes fascinated by him. His intelligence, confidence, and warmth make him impossible to ignore. Yet behind his flawless appearance and easy smile, she senses something she cannot explain.

As her fascination grows, so does her suspicion. Strange coincidences begin to emerge. Conversations seem to mirror her private thoughts. The line between reality and fiction becomes increasingly blurred, and Marieke finds herself questioning everything she once believed to be true.

While her best friend Sarah tries to keep her grounded and the wise Mrs Jansen offers unexpected insights, Marieke is drawn into a dangerous game of truth, manipulation, and self-deception. What begins as a search for inspiration becomes a journey into the darkest corners of the human mind.

Shimmering Deception is a gripping psychological novel about trust, identity, obsession, and the seductive power of lies. A haunting story in which nothing is quite what it seems-and where the greatest deception may be the stories we tell ourselves.
