Death Hangs Around: An Izabella Varga Mystery

Hungary, 1956, a nation on the verge of revolution. Izabella Varga, still reeling from the nightmare that was WWII, has no stomach for the rhetoric of war and patriotism. But when the murder of her childhood friend is covered up by Soviet interests, she is forced to chase her suspicions across the city of Budapest, putting her own life at risk in the name of justice. Her pursuits put her on a collision course with the cantankerous Captain László of the secret police, a dangerous man with personal motivations; as well as Stefan Tressler, an enigmatic Austrian with a habit of being in the wrong place at the right time. From the sprawling green hills of Buda to the cold, foggy streets of Pest, there is trouble around every corner. She is watched, and not just by the birds, it seems. Still, she continues. Stopping now would mean far worse than death. As political tensions continue to rise, every clue she uncovers nudges the city closer to violent upheaval. Hope takes flight, and Izabella must unravel the mystery before her last chance of escape becomes scattered to the cruel winds of fate.
