The second part examines the historical evolution of Irish script (the Irish hand), tracing that tradition to our own time.

Timothy O'Neill is widely acknowledged to be the finest contemporary calligrapher in Ireland and is also a leading scholarly authority on the subject. His books include Merchants and Mariners in Medieval Ireland (1987) and a contribution to A New History of Ireland, Volume 11.
