In a world where words are forbidden, two young people from different worlds come together and fall in love.

Both come from families that honor the Creed, though questions about the Creed's authority are rife. According to the Creed, words bring war and silence ensures peace. Sam works the land, harvesting fruit from trees. Lizzy is from the trees, where people live amongst the birds.

They were brought up to distrust one another. Both are coming of age at a time when their worlds are threatened by a secret war. As they join forces, an alliance is born that goes against Creed leaders. The things they learn together go against everything they thought was true about the world.
