The global economy requires globalized movement of goods. Freight transport operations are required to be efficient, productive, safe and secure, clean and green. Development and introduction of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) are essential in addition to various infrastructure developments to ensure comprehensive and accurate information exchange, transparency and regulatory compliance also for international multimodal transport.
In this book, an overview of the transition from IT (Information Technology) to ICT for intermodal transport is presented, and current applications and future issues are discussed. It also covers tracking and tracing vehicles and goods. ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) allow to reduce cost and fuel consumption and can also benefit vehicle management of freight operators.
