The importance of food to human beings can hardly be overemphasized. Unlike most of our fellow animals on the planet, we eat for reasons other than the maintenance of our bodies or even the satisfaction of our appetites. We eat because food is life and joy, for love, for celebration, for fellowship, for magic. Food is woven through all our cultures and into all our stories. It is something that sets us apart, as natives of a certain country or a certain region, of members of a certain class, of followers of a certain religion.

But as well as earthly concerns we use food to worship our Gods, and to perform rituals and do magic and healing...who knew?
