Colin Lowrie. Tall, red-haired, Scottish; sixteen years old and proud with the pride of his ancient clan, the Lowries.

But the clans were defeated, massacred at Culloden and their ways forbidden under the laws imposed by the English. Hunted by the Redcoats for his aid in the recovery and escape of one of the clan leaders, Lowrie had to run, as fast and as far as he could.

A journey halfway round the world ending as slave on a barbaric plantation in the West Indies. A dramatic rescue and a move the New Orleans where he indulged his whims. On to Virginia where his reversal of fortunes saw him owning slaves himself and involved with an eccentric heiress.

Each change gave him something to remember but one thing was constant-Braidlowrie, the home from which he was exiled and to which he yearned to return.
