Behind the Painting

Behind every painting, there is a story.

A poignant and heartfelt memoir uncovering the highs, the lows, and the paintings of an artist with a lifetime of stories to tell.

Marquiss tells the personal stories behind ten of her paintings created over three decades. Her art reflects both the light side of life - playful adventures in Paris - and serious challenges, including divorce, family suicide and cancer. Through her paintings Marquiss discovered a circular language that became a source of inspiration, comfort and strength as she navigated life's challenges and changes with humor, courage and inner awareness.

Behind the Painting opens a window into the artist's creative process, revealing the experiences, emotions and insights that brought these works to life.

She has crafted a one-of-a-kind collection of stories that expertly captures both the light and the dark of the human experience.
