The Anglo-Saxon Kings of Lindsey are recorded in a set of documents known as the Anglian Collection, but apart from this none of Kings of Lindsey appear in any other primary source from the period, we can't put dates to any of their reigns or place any historical events to individual reigns. The kings of Lindsey stand out as an enigma in comparison with their neighbors and peers of the period. Some historians have speculated that the Lindsey genealogy in the Anglian Collection may not be genuine, which itself presents a mystery as to why it was produced? By using a framework of recorded events in neighboring kingdoms, analysis of the recorded 7th century events in Lindsey that have survived, and archeological evidence, this book speculates on two potential end dates for this royal linage. One assumes the Lindsey genealogy is a genuine linage and the last four kings on the genealogy reigned in the violent and volatile 7th century fitting the narrative provided by the historical framework. The other assumes that the Lindsey genealogy is different to the others in the Anglian Collection. The kingdom was fought over between Mercia and Northumbria, a contest eventually won by Mercia. In distinct periods though Lindsey is conquered and ruled by Northumbria. In this scenario the names of the last three kings on the genealogy are in fact Northumbrians.
