Having read all of the books in Victoria Twead's "Two Old Fools..." series and not being able to put them down during the holidays, I was reluctant to read this book--a prequel to the others. I feared that this book wouldn't live up to her other work. I needn't have hesitated. Victoria takes you from her very early years to teen years and captures the feeling of each age with poignancy and humor.

Victoria Twead has done it again! The reader is transported to the lanes, highways and byways of the small towns and villages where Vickie grew up, went to school, walked the shores, rode the rails, played with her siblings and observed both her parents and close neighbors. She captures the scents, sights and sounds of a youth well spent. We travel along with her as she experiences her first jobs, her many friends and the lessons learned along the way.
This is memoir writing at its very best.
