Kids in Costume

Kids in Costume is written with students in grades K-2 in mind. Story structures are carefully chosen and glued together by familiar sight words. Print layout and supportive pictures lift the reader and new vocabulary is clearly defined. Threads of text run across each page allowing readers to find their entry point, and partner reading is enhanced as learners of all abilities stretch their skills.

Kids in Costume is the first in a series of texts that offers both a fiction and nonfiction story. Children relate to the main character as he searches for his perfect costume while gorgeous photographs draw them in. In the nonfiction story, children learn facts about their favorite animals while admiring the creativity of the costumed children on each page. The fiction and nonfiction story capture the delicate balance of honoring the great minds of our young readers while scaffolding their skills for success.
