Lady Patience Nicolet, the third eldest daughter of the Duke of Pelham, is poised to take her place in society. Or perhaps poised is the wrong word, as that would indicate a ladylike going forward. Patience is in the habit of racing ahead as fast as possible and she is certain she will make quick work of settling herself. After all, she must just look about and identify the gentleman who would suit.

Not surprisingly to anyone in her family, she does just that.

Marcus Langley, Earl of Stanford, is resolutely calm and measured. He understands that very few things outside of a housefire require an immediate response and he has his reasons for going slow. He is wildly attracted to Patience, but he is determined to take his time in a decision that will guide the course of the rest of his life.
