What if the Voices inside someone's head could determine their guilt or innocence?

Mark Lambert thought he was done with the law. Retired and still grieving the loss of his son, he had no intention of stepping back into a courtroom-until a judge hands him one final case: defending Joshua Burden, a young man with schizophrenia accused of a brutal murder.

The evidence is damning:

A bloody knife.

A fractured "confession."

A town ready for swift justice.

But nothing about Josh, or the night a young woman was found dead on a lonely trail, adds up.

As Mark and his fiercely relentless daughter Mel dig deeper, they uncover a case riddled with contradictions: missing evidence, shaky police work, and a victim whose past raises more questions than answers. Meanwhile, Josh struggles in confinement with a delusion-he loved the Girl on the Moon, but both the Voices and the police said he'd killed her.

Josh faces either death by lethal injection or life in a cell constructed for an insane asylum. Mark and Mel cannot let that happen. To prove Josh didn't commit a murder, however, they're forced to track down who did.

The Girl on the Moon is a gripping legal drama that blends psychological suspense with emotional depth, exploring mental illness, grief, love, and the facades of deceit.

If you're drawn to courtroom thrillers with heart, complex characters, and twists that challenge everything you think you know-this is a story you won't be able to put down.

Larry Albers was born in 1952 on the Francis E. Warren Air Force Base near Cheyenne, Wyoming. He attended the University of Nebraska College of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the Nebraska Law Review, before building a long legal career in Lincoln, Nebraska, retiring in 2025. To further develop his fiction writing, Larry attended two sessions of the University of Iowa Summer Writing Workshop.

Larry is married to Dee Albers (née Endacott), and together they have two children, Trent and Alex, and a son-in-law, C.J.

A lifelong reader of French and Spanish novels, Larry noticed that after reading in another language, his mind would continue thinking in it, sometimes searching for the right word before sleep. That experience, combined with his legal representation of an inmate with schizophrenia, helped inspire his debut novel, The Girl on the Moon.
