Each chapter is concerned with an episode in Our Lady's life and is followed with topics for meditation and spiritual lessons. The English translation, by the learned Fr. Richard Gibbons, S.J., has been out of print for just over four centuries. Also included in the volume are a set of beautiful and pithy Rosary prayers by Fr. Henry Garnet, S.J., and a life, in four chapters, of Sts. Joachim and Anne, maternal grandparents of Jesus Christ, written by Fr. Etienne Binet, S.J., himself a close friend of St. François de Sales. The volume is supplemented with a lengthy and scholarly editorial introduction, explanatory notes throughout the text, and, as an appendix, a bibliographical history with details of every known edition of Fr. Pinelli's book.
