Author Bio
Jan Yager, Ph.D., the former Janet Lee (J.L.) Barkas, is an award-winning author of more than 70 books across fiction, nonfiction, and dramatic literature. She studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and trained at the Gene Frankel Theatre Workshop. She was also a freelance theater critic for Backstage for seven years. Her play Between Friends was a finalist in the Utah Shakespeare Festival New Playwrights Program, and during a meeting in London, the late Harold Pinter praised her first full-length play, "The Monarch Butterfly."
A member of the Dramatists Guild of America and the Authors Guild, Dr. Yager holds a Ph.D. in sociology and has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in criminology and victimology since her mid-twenties, including at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, since 2014.
