The Mesh was founded by people of Earth who became trapped in a world they did not know, transported there by a faulty experiment with no way home. With the unified purpose of someday returning to their planet, these settlers built a highly structured, efficient, and progressive society intended to attain fast and sustained technological progress.

There has been little room for anything but. The only source of entertainment, a reprieve, is the antigravitational sport of helming, whose highest-ranked athletes are sponsored by the governing body known as the Vision.

Among these acclaimed helmers is Dani Spellbound, daughter of the Expert of the Evening Sky-one of the Skyquarters that makes up the Mesh. But not even their titles are enough to keep them safe from the unknown.

When Matthew Reverent is caught in the mysterious and irreversible state of Dreaming, his family is left to mourn and wonder. Because there is more about his death-for that is, in essence, what Dreaming is-than simple circumstance. Dani is determined to learn what her father was working on, the history of it and of the Mesh itself, and the traps that lie within. Their society's secrets put people in danger, and the loss of Matthew is Dani's final straw.

Joined by allies like her grandfather and an estranged friend, Dani Spellbound embarks on a quest to uncover what their world doesn't want them to know. They have to find the truth...before it finds them.
