Eira is a girl confined by the social expectations of her time. She is expected to get married, have children and support her man.

The arrival of the Roman army sets all expectations aside as Corin and Eira are taken from the world they know, to a world where they are expected to obey their captors.

This book starts a series following Corin and Eira's family line down through history. The series is also a look into the history of the Christian Church, not the leaders of the church but the people who were the church.
