The Second World War era Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was the forerunner of today's CIA.

During the war the organisation planned and executed thousands of covert operations behind enemy lines from North Africa to Europe to Asia.

This publication reproduces the OSS' 1944 Secret Intelligence Field Manual. It describes the secret intelligence organisations, spy rings, agent-running and all the other aspects of wartime spying. Classified "Top Secret" in its day, this manual was only fully declassified in the past few years.
