The African intellectual tradition in South Africa has many streams of the same river. Rooted in knowledge production, emancipation, and Afrocentric thought, it has shaped African Nationalism, Pan-Africanism, and Black Consciousness in resistance to colonialism and apartheid. The New African Movement must be understood with historical depth. The Pan- African intellectual is the intellectual of global Africa (socially grounded, not territorially defined) committed to the struggles of all oppressed peoples. They are organic intellectuals of the working class, critically engaging history, capitalism, nationalism, and the ideologies that obscure self-awareness. The Pan-African project is a liberation project, not simply a decolonial or epistemological one. It must proceed on its own terms, with historical clarity and a universal emancipatory vision.
