Resilience in Historical Landscapes

This Special Issue brings together interdisciplinary contributions that explore how resilience has been expressed in historical landscapes across diverse environmental, cultural, and temporal contexts. Drawing from archaeology, history, vegetation and environmental science, and spatial analysis, the collected articles examine how past societies adapted to ecological constraints, transformed settlement systems, and developed sustainable strategies for managing resources. Emphasis is placed on diachronic approaches and methodological diversity, offering insights into how landscapes have persisted, evolved, or regenerated in response to social and historical changes. This volume contributes to ongoing debates on resilience by framing it as a historically situated process embedded in human-environment interactions.
