Inspiration Leica Akademie - visual treats and inspiring knowledge This book is like an inspiring visit to a gallery. Heidi and Robert Mertens have curated outstanding pictures taken by 76 Leica Akademie photographers from 16 countries worldwide, and have presented them in an original layout. In the words of the authors, each picture tells a story that will bring you further along your unfolding photographic journey. You will learn how to recognize and capture decisive moments, how to change your perspective to gain creative opportunities, how to let rules be rules, and how to reveal less, yet imply much more. Visual treats and inspiring knowledge are presented in both German and English!

In her artistic work, Heidi Mertens primarily combines elements taken from photography with texts and graphics. The Graz-based artist was initially an editor at the Austrian public service broadcaster, ORF, and has been working freelance in the fields of graphic design and creativity, since 1995. She regularly gives workshops on these subjects. Since 2012, she has increasingly turned to photography and is working on a number of projects.
Robert Mertens is an art photographer, book author, and teacher of photography and visual creativity. After completing a classic training in photography and having years of creative experience in advertising, he decided to follow an artistic career. His enthusiasm for the connection of creativity and photography is evident in his three books: Kreative Fotopraxis (Creative Photography in Practice), Der eigene Blick (The Personal Eye) and Der kreative Fotograf (The Creative Photographer) together with Heidi Mertens. These books were all published by Rheinwerk Verlag. Mertens has been running regular workshops, seminars and courses on the subjects of creativity and photography, since 2007, including the Leica Akademie MasterClass in Wetzlar.
