Animal pathology involves the scientific examination of diseases in animals, with a focus on the underlying causes, processes, and impacts of illness. This field is similar to human pathology but is tailored specifically to non-human species. Through the analysis of pathological changes, such as lesions or abnormal growths, veterinarians and researchers are able to enhance their ability to diagnose and treat animal diseases, ultimately leading to improvements in both animal welfare and public health. Animal physiology, on the other hand, pertains to the study of how an animal's body operates. In contrast, pathology specifically investigates the functional and structural manifestations of disease. These two fields are inherently intertwined given that disease signifies a breakdown in normal physiological processes, or homeostasis.
