This study examines whether targeted muscular endurance training of the legs influences the lactate thresholds during an ergometer test and, consequently, overall endurance performance. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the effectiveness of training a single component of a mechanism of action on the improvement of the entire system. During the intensive muscular endurance training, the aim was to maintain a high number of repetitions whilst performing them at a moderate pace in order to exclude the cardiovascular system from the training effect as far as possible. A step-load test on the bicycle ergometer was carried out before, halfway through and at the end of the training period. The main focus of this study was on comparing the lactate-power curves. Although no improvement in performance was observed in the form of improved lactate values at the transition points, nor was there an improvement in maximum power, there was an adaptation of the lactate-power curve.
