Quitting smoking during pregnancy is rarely sustained after the birth. More than half of mothers start smoking again shortly after giving birth. However, the negative health consequences for both mother and child persist even after the birth. This study therefore investigates the factors influencing the maintenance of smoking cessation achieved during pregnancy after the birth. It also identifies useful interventions to help maintain abstinence from smoking.
