How to continue without staff? The skills and labor shortage is one of the most pressing challenges in Tyrolean tourism, especially in small and medium-sized businesses. This book analyzes the topic in the context of far-reaching structural changes in the labor market: demographic change, socio-cultural shifts and external crises such as COVID-19.Based on qualitative expert interviews with stakeholders from the tourism industry and regional development, existing problems and strategies for recruiting and retaining skilled workers are highlighted. The results show that more than quick fixes are needed. Sustainable approaches such as in-company learning paths, dual training, innovative working models and the targeted integration of foreign skilled workers must be combined and structurally promoted. The study provides well-founded impulses for research, politics and practice and shows ways in which Alpine tourism can remain fit for the labor market.
