Brain-Heart

The organism operates through a network of systems and the brain-heart relationship or connection is a fascinating system. This relationship has captivated scientists and philosophers, and today we know that both organs are in continuous communication. In the Introduction we discuss how this connection has been acquiring medical and scientific importance and that its functioning has a great impact on our health. Section 2 discusses that, under normal conditions, the brain connects with the heart mainly through the autonomic nervous system (efferent fibers) and the neurohormonal axis, whereas the heart connects with the brain through the cerebral circulation and the autonomic nervous system (afferent fibers), emphasizing the importance of cardiovascular diseases and that when the brain gets sick, the heart often gets sick too, and vice versa, when the heart gets sick, the brain often gets sick too. Section 4 points out that the brain-heart connection is different in women and men.
