settlement of sports disputes by the CAS

The steady rise in sports-related litigation has prompted the governing bodies of the sports movement to establish a specialised sports tribunal. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has jurisdiction to rule on disputes arising from the practice of sport, its development or the conduct of any sporting activity. An examination of the various procedures for resolving sports disputes highlights the advantages of this arbitral body. However, a critical study of the CAS has identified shortcomings relating to its accessibility and functioning. To enable the CAS to claim exclusive jurisdiction over sports disputes as the court of last resort, corresponding solutions are proposed in this monograph.
