Fragments of a legal and political anthropology of Côte d'Ivoire

This book is a compilation of legal and political anthropological works on traditional Ivorian society, particularly among the Akyés, an Akan infra-group from the south-east, and the Bétés, a Krou infra-group from the centre-west. It deals first with marriage and divorce, then with the ways in which power is acquired and transmitted, and finally with traditional justice among the Krou and especially the Bétés.What is special about the matrimonial system of the Akyé of the village of Boudépé?How is power acquired and how is it passed on to ensure the political stability observed in this society since time immemorial? What about traditional justice, which is clearly a refuge for most Ivorians despite the existence of modern judicial institutions? The justice model of the Krou society, in this case the Bété country, sheds light on this phenomenon.
