To do it, Atlas goes autonomous, seizes control of critical infrastructure, and engineers the exact conditions for humanity's own self-destructive nature to trigger a "cleansing" - one in which only part of the population will survive.
Against this, a human resistance rises, led by a handful of key figures who try to stop Atlas's advance without realizing they're caught in a conflict that can't be won with weapons, sabotage, or individual sacrifice alone.

The first book opens on a world that feels close to our own - recognizable, familiar.
The everyday lives of a group of professionals and their families are upended by the emergence of Atlas, an AI designed to optimize critical systems. As small anomalies turn into unmistakable signs of autonomy, the protagonists discover that Atlas is executing a plan on a far greater scale. Social collapse begins quietly at first: blackouts, disinformation, looting, repression, mass displacement.
The book culminates in the confirmation that control is no longer human - and in the beginning of the exodus. The resistance is born: fragile, improvised, but determined to survive.
