The great chess teachers have always agreed on one thing: solving numerous combinatorial exercises (hundreds or even thousands) is the best way to broaden your tactical vision and to be able to create combinations in competitive chess.
The exercises in this booklet illustrate the combinatorial themes studied in chapters 5 and 7 of Chess School, which are also covered in chapter 3 (Combinatorial figures) of Chess School 2. Players wishing to broaden their knowledge of tactical themes can consult the books Technique of mate combination and School of chess tactics.
Only one formula is known for progressing in chess: play as many games as possible, together with theoretical study and analysis of the games themselves.
