OMVs in an urban health zone

"Missed opportunities for vaccination (MOV) are defined as a situation where a child who is eligible for vaccination and has no valid contraindications visits a health facility and does NOT receive all the recommended vaccines. " (WHO 1991) Missed opportunities for vaccination are a factor that may explain the low vaccination coverage observed. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) faces the challenge of vaccinating every child wherever they are in order to reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable target diseases. This objective can only be achieved with vaccination coverage of at least 80% of the target population, which is well above the coverage currently reported in the health zones of the DRC.
