Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease caused by flagellated protozoa known as Leishmania and transmitted by the bite of sandflies. In Morocco, the disease is a cause for public health concern. Like many towns in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains, several villages in the province of Azilal have been classified as highly endemic, with Foum Jemaâ being one of the areas affected by the disease. This book is devoted to the identification of the pathogen and the study of the vectors of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the Foum Jemaâ region. The first chapter presents a literature review on the pathogen responsible for leishmaniasis. The second chapter deals with general information on the vector and reservoir of the disease. The third chapter focuses on the results of the microscopic and molecular characterisation of the parasites in the Foum Jemaâ region. As for the fourth chapter, it is devoted to the entomological survey of the sand fly population in the Foum Jemaâ region.
