Children's participation in everyday life at nursery

The child's right to participation is set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and is not subject to any minimum age requirement. It can therefore be assumed that children should be involved from birth. This is addressed in various documents, such as the Inter-Federal State Framework Curriculum for Early Years Education in Austria or General Comment No. 7, which deals with children's rights in early childhood. The aim of this book is to explore how children's participation can be shaped within nursery settings. To this end, the concept of 'everyday participation' is employed, which refers to listening to children, observing them and having confidence in their abilities. In this regard, the focus is, on the one hand, on the opportunities for children's everyday participation envisaged by educators and, on the other hand, on how everyday participation is actually implemented in nurseries.
