Documentary, Mockumentary and the Construction of Reality

Documentary, Mockumentary and the Construction of Reality offers a comprehensive exploration of documentary film from its historical origins and philosophical foundations to its contemporary transformations in the digital age. Bringing together documentary history, filmmaking principles, narrative strategies, genres, African and Nigerian documentary traditions, and the emergence of mockumentary, the book provides an integrated understanding of how visual media construct, negotiate, and challenge reality. It culminates in an original examination of Visa on Arrival and the growing significance of faux realism in shaping audience perception and media truth. Written for students, scholars, filmmakers, journalists, and media practitioners, this volume serves as both a foundational textbook and a critical contribution to contemporary documentary scholarship.
