The use of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance as a security measure in public transport is increasingly gaining attention worldwide. In Kenya, public transport is the primary mode of transport. Despite its importance, the public transport sector faces significant security challenges. CCTV acts as a deterrent and investigative tool but limited research exists on its effectiveness in enhancing security within the sector. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of CCTV surveillance in enhancing security within public transport. The study was guided by four objectives; to evaluate the role of CCTV surveillance in deterring criminal activities within public transport, to assess the influence of real-time CCTV monitoring in improving security within public transport, to examine the role of CCTV footage in aiding investigations of criminal activities within public transport and to establish the influence of CCTV surveillance on the behavior of public transport operators in promoting security within public transport.
