"The Energy Transition and Global Challenges" aims to provide a dispassionate analysis of the significant challenges that lie ahead, primarily in the face of major economic shifts-shifts that carry a political dimension and result in paradigm shifts. At times, this can even take the form of a radical break, as is the case with energy. There are numerous factors influencing energy consumption patterns, but the most significant remain security and the impacts of climate change. Our analysis will focus on the perspectives of the key players in the energy sector. We will thus present various energy mix scenarios for Europe and the Maghreb. EU-Maghreb relations are of primary concern to us; we will therefore address them, along with their implications for Northwest Africa. We will examine the case of Algeria in detail. The ultimate goal of our analysis is to prepare the region for an energy transition in which renewable energy could meet 100% of energy needs by 2040-2050. In doing so, we can also address the greatest challenge: limiting global warming to 2.5°C by 2050.
