Water Works: Eco-Social Design

A stimulating and wide-ranging guide to current projects addressing the various water emergencies we face

This volume offers more than 40 innovative and creative approaches to water pollution and spreading drought. Divided into seven different themes, this book elaborates ways to conceptualize places and spaces that reimagine eco-social connections and solutions, and generate relationships between people, organisms and infrastructures. It discusses and illustrates different locally embedded "water works" solutions, with examples from all over the globe. Case studies display myriad ways to obtain knowledge and tackle water troubles, offering examples such as deconstructing dams, designing better waterfalls, listening to ice and researching different irrigation methods--exploring ways in which local knowledge can be combined with science. Water Works demonstrates that art, culture and the incorporation of existing structures and collaborations play crucial roles as inspiration and as launching pads for changing our way of addressing climate change.Contributors include: Mari Bastashevski, Janna Bystrykh, Carolina Dominguez-Guzmán, Clemens Driessen, Shahnoor Hasan, Clara Helbo, Ils Huygens, Francesca Masoero, Coltrane McDowell, mirko nikolic, Joana Pestana, Benedetta Pompili, Moreno Schweikle, Esha Shah, Mihnea Tananescu, Serina Tarkhanian, John Thackara, Henriëtte Waal.
