Implacable Mirror

A man stands on trial for threatening four road workers with a rifle.

That should be the story.

It is not.

When journalist Hirlas begins investigating the strange case of Egbert, an eccentric scholar living in the Red Fields of Taillebourg, he enters a world where medieval legends, military secrets, vanished documents, impossible lights, ancient runes, prophecy, and human fear begin to converge.

Egbert claims that something appeared on his roof.

That a wounded stranger was recovered near a French air base.

That an old road through the sky may have been remembered for centuries as mythology.

That the King of Terror is coming.

Or perhaps it has already arrived.

The deeper Hirlas follows the pattern, the less certain he becomes that he is uncovering a conspiracy. Every fact opens onto another possibility. Every answer creates a more dangerous question. And behind the entire investigation waits an image first described years before the events that seemed to explain it:

an implacable mirror.

A mirror does not attack.

It reflects.

And the terror begins when the observer recognizes what is looking back.

THE IMPLACABLE MIRROR is a haunting literary journey through occult history, cosmic mystery, political secrecy, mythology, memory, and the dangerous human need to make one thing answer another.

Some mysteries conceal the truth.

Others reveal us.
