Blood Waltz: The waltz ends in red. A Gothic Vampire Horror One-Shot for Fifth Edition

The invitation is written in gold, and the wine is warm as blood. Behind every porcelain mask at Lord Valtros's masquerade, the smile is a hunger - and you are not a guest. You are the next course.

Your table arrives at Blackwood Manor for the Crimson Masquerade, the most beautiful ball in the world: candlelight dripping from crystal, an orchestra too sweet to be human, and endless dark wine. Then the first waltz cracks. A guest is dragged screaming beneath the floor, a servant's mask splits to show the withered thing beneath, and the mist rolls up over the road behind you. There is no leaving Blackwood tonight. The only way out is through its host.

A complete fifth-edition adventure you can run tonight, cold, with zero preparation.

To reach Lord Valtros you must learn three truths - and there are two ways to earn them. Dance the waltzes above with the vampire lords of the house, or bleed for them below in the blood-cask vaults. The road you choose is not decoration: one arms you with an ally and the host's secret, the other with holy water, silver, and a captive worth saving. Both end at the same throne, armed very differently.

What's Inside

  • A full 2-3 hour one-shot for 2-3 players at levels 2-3 - genuinely zero prep
  • Four acts and nineteen named scenes, with a consequential Act Two fork: the Social Knife above or the Crimson Descent below, each carrying different advantages into the finale
  • The Sanguine Hour - a visible clock that drags the ball toward the Red Midnight and escalates the horror no matter how cleanly your table plays
  • A true-vampire boss with regeneration, a misty escape, and children of the night - beating him to zero is not the kill; you must stake the heart, foul the coffin, or catch him in the dawn
  • Twenty read-aloud blocks written to be read cold at the table
  • Six creature stat blocks and five NPCs, all SRD 5.1-compliant
  • Four ready-made characters - any two of them form a viable party, no filler seats
  • Five battle maps, six opening hooks, six off-script contingencies, and campaign seeds
Two questions. Four endings. No clean one.

When the host finally falls, the house asks your table two things: break the Sanguine Seal or leave it beating, and claim his porcelain soul or deny it. Four very different mornings follow, each fully written with its own aftermath and hooks - and groups argue about which one they chose all the way home.

A villain worth the fight.

Lord Valtros is not a monster to be cleared off a grid. He is a lord three centuries tired of his own curse, who wants his death and cannot take it, and the manor itself keeps his terrible court. This is gothic vampire horror in the truest key - porcelain masks over hungry faces, mirrors that show no reflection, and a waltz that never stops even as the floor bleeds beneath it.

Built for the table you actually have

Most published adventures assume four to six players and a Game Master with a free weekend. This one is built for two or three friends and one evening. Every encounter is tuned for a small party, every clue has three separate ways in, and every scene carries a written fallback for the moment your players do something nobody planned. Run it on a grid, on a whiteboard, or entirely in the theatre of the mind.

What you need

The core fifth edition rules and two or three friends. Everything else, characters, creatures, maps, and the whole night - is in this book.

Perfect For
- Game Masters who want a complete horror session without a week of prep
- Small tables - two or three players, no empty chairs to fill
- Vampire and gothic-horror fans, and a perfect one-night Halloween session
- A dark break from a long campaign, or a striking first adventure for new players

The waltz ends when the blood runs cold. Try not to lead.
