Like a great many readers over the past eighty years, this author has enjoyed George Orwell's Animal Farm without reservation. This little book is one reader's attempt to look at that same novel from another angle entirely, a personal thought experiment and nothing more. It can be read in an afternoon, and a reader with no taste for the mathematics can skip most of the number-work without losing the thread, since the logic holds together on its own. Even with the arithmetic left in, it is hoped that the whole exercise still reads, first and foremost, as an enjoyable one.
