Everyone Will Return: Forty-Eight Hours at Ceuta

The crossing was the image. The return is the story.

For forty-eight hours, Ceuta's border appeared to stop working. Tens of thousands crossed into the Spanish city after a court ruling became an online claim that the route was open. Governments blamed smugglers. Political opponents blamed one another. Social media turned uncertain footage into a story of invasion.

Then the movement reversed. Within roughly a day, most of those reported to have entered had returned to Morocco.

Everyone Will Return reconstructs 30 and 31 July 2026 from official records, judicial material, multilingual reporting and public digital evidence. It follows the warnings, the ruling-to-rumour chain, disputed counts, deaths still being counted, Morocco's disputed role, and the images that preserved the crossing while largely erasing the return.
