Architecture of Survival: On the Invisible Conditions and Boundaries of the Horizon of Human Life

Architecture of Survival presents a conceptual framework for understanding life from the standpoint of the conditions that make its continued existence possible, rather than from the standpoint of its meaning, history, or biological definition. The book argues that survival depends on the simultaneous maintenance of necessary conditions and that the boundaries of life are best understood as a multidimensional operational space rather than as a single temporal limit.

The first essay, The Conjunction of Life, develops a model in which human survival depends on the conjunction of fourteen environmental domains whose simultaneous satisfaction sustains life. It argues that the organism continuously regulates this conjunction while consciousness never experiences it as a single phenomenal whole, distinguishing functional regulation from conscious representation and examining the implications of this asymmetry for human perception and civilization.

The second essay, The Horizon-Space of Human Survival, introduces the concept of horizon-space: a multidimensional field in which life is situated relative to operational boundaries. The theory analyzes these boundaries through five coordinates-form, mechanism, scale, interaction, and reversibility-and proposes that biological, technological, institutional, and civilizational failures can be examined within a common analytical architecture while remaining distinct kinds of phenomena.

An afterword brings both models together by examining how the very systems that sustain life can themselves become new operational boundaries through the concentration of dependencies and the creation of new forms of vulnerability.
