Dilemma of Humanity: When power grows faster than the wisdom to use it

Cain had a stone. Today we have algorithms capable of deciding who lives and who dies, weapons that don't require looking at anyone's face, and the ability to edit life itself at the molecular level. The human will has not changed since the first altar. What changed, irreversibly, is the reach of that will.

The Dilemma of Humanity traces the gap that widens with every generation between the power we're capable of building and the wisdom we have to direct it. It moves through real, verifiable cases: the lead we breathed for decades before knowing it was poison, the opioid crisis that began with a medication prescribed by trusted doctors, the internal Facebook documents that revealed the human cost of the attention economy, and the autonomous drones being tested right now, in 2026, with no human pilot in the decision loop.

But it also shows the gap is not a sealed fate: Charlemagne, Ashoka, and Cyrus the Great each had the power to keep conquering indefinitely, and redirected it instead. A group of scientists, in 1975, had the technology ready to advance without restraint, and chose to stop and ask whether they should.

This is not a book about technology, nor a work of futurology. It is a contemplative letter about power, the wisdom we still haven't learned to scale at the same pace, and the question every generation avoids: should we, even if we can?
