In the bustling halls of a charter school, Kim juggles the demands of her job as a social worker with the challenges of raising her pre-teen daughter and high school junior son. Since losing her husband, her few attempts at dating have ended in disaster, with her grief always lurking just beneath the surface, resurfacing without warning.

Then she connects with Shawn, the kind and handsome divorced father of her son's best friend. Sparks fly, and Kim finds herself falling for him. She begins to come alive romantically and starts to push past her feelings of grief. But just as their relationship deepens and their lives become more intertwined, Shawn's son, Oliver, begins a dark and troubling downward spiral, drawing Kim into a conflict between her professional duties and her personal life.
