Dean Adams is deep in an existentialist, suburban Ohio, Instagram-laden malaise when an old friend from college, Kyle Dedalus, appears miraculously on his doorstep offering a free road trip in his new Tesla. While Dean hopes this trip is his key to a more elevated lifestyle, he soon finds his journey leads him down an unexpected path. Reminiscent of Kerouac's On The Road, Millenarianism plays with themes of American freedom, existentialism in the face of death, the role of novels and novelists, and what it means to live purposefully. However, Millenarianism adapts itself to a younger generation wrought by student loans, a homogenized and hyper-corporatist landscape, and the persistent continuation of a white male playground across the nation.
