English in the Bag

ENGLISH in the Bag is designed to provide children and adults with the ability to learn English conversation and the capacity to master spoken English. Learners of all ages can acquire oral English skills through practicing authentic scenarios based on real experiences native speakers would have. At every step, this book allows students to assess their English proficiency through the question-and-answer method and discrete written language activities. This book gives students the foundation they will need to move from beginning to intermediate, and finally, to advanced-level English.ENGLISH in the Bag is founded on the key principles of Stephen Krashen's Comprehensible Input Hypothesis (i+1) and supports his philosophy that having "compelling content" is essential to learning languages: "Learners acquire language by receiving input (listening/reading) that contains Structures slightly beyond their current level (i), which they can understand due to context and prior knowledge (the '+1')". ... "Input should be interesting and engaging enough to hold the learner's attention, making them forget they are in another language."(Principles and Practice in Second Language Acquisition, 1982).Language acquisition is a subconscious process, not unlike the way a child learns language. Language acquirers are not consciously aware of the grammatical rules of the language but rather develop a feel for correctness. Krashen writes, "In non-technical language, acquisition is 'picking up' a language."
