When a 15-year-old girl called Bug spots a mysterious girl sneaking into the forest, a place forbidden to locals, she hatches a plan to find her. Bug uncovers truths about nature's powers and that fabled creatures from books are real. "Great grasshopper!"

Bug, along with her newfound friends, encounters an enemy in disguise. There's a plot to rid the world of the kindred (ordinary folks) who are ruining it.

Bug needs to stop an evil plan, save the kindred, and still make it home before dark.
