Deputy Logan Slade thought he'd inherit his old friend's watermelon farm...not merely part of it.
He loved Jim like a father, and Jim had loved him like a son. Logan spent half his life working at JS Melons. The business is in his blood, the farm in his heart. She doesn't know anything about raising watermelons, but she has taken several college business and marketing classes. She believes she can help with the business side of things. Living in a rural community is a new experience, but Shelby finds the peace and quiet soothing to her battered soul.

Then someone starts digging near the old oak tree in the field at night. Logan is concerned about who's out there and what they're looking for. But he's more worried about Shelby's safety.

As they search for clues and try to solve the mystery, they find more than they seek--in each other. But Shelby has lost everyone she held dear, and with the exception of Jim and a few friends, Logan is cautious of close relationships.
